Program Description

This presentation will examine environmental and workplace factors which may be contributing to increased fear, worry, and uncertainty in organizations. We will look at the ramifications of fear in the workplace and how it may be contributing to increases in problems such as depression, anxiety, conflict, and substance abuse resulting in lost productivity, increased behavioral risks, and lost opportunities for the organization. We will examine what can be done by EA professionals, providers, and treatment facilities to address these workplace realities in creative ways and increase their value to the organization and/or employees.

About
Reidar Hansen

Reidar Hansen, LCSW, CEAP, a graduate of the LSU School of Social Work, brings over 30 years of experience in the human resources and EAP field. He began developing his conflict management skills when working with child abuse and neglect clients. He further developed those skills by training caseworkers on how to manage angry, aggressive, and, oftentimes, potentially violent individuals.

In 1987, Reidar began his work in Employee Assistance As Regional EAP Director, Reidar often worked with management in addressing conflict issues between employees and employees and managers. Since many of his corporate clients were union represented, Reidar was able to develop an understanding of labor management issues and became a consultant to management on these issues. In 1991, Reidar began his work with Conoco, Inc.

Reidar has received extensive training related to his current consulting work. These include Masterful Coaching from Robert Hargrove, Difficult Conversations, Principled Centered Leadership, DiSC, MBTI, Violence in the Workplace, Situational Leadership, Critical Incident Debriefing, and Chorda Collaboration and Advanced Mediation Skills.

Reidar left ConocoPhillips in March, 2004 to pursue a career as an organizational consultant, which specializes in working with conflict management, organizational change, team building, coaching, emotional intelligence, and building trust in the workplace.
