Program Description

Clinicians and EAPs face a changing world, and nothing is changing faster than the Internet. Current developments in social media present enormous opportunities for tech savvy professionals. Learning about new media will enable you to boost your professional visibility and/or private practice. In addition, the Internet offers the latest in cutting edge information and resources. This informative (and entertaining) presentation will help you leap into the 21st century and maximize your knowledge, your professional exposure and your earning potential. If you can power on a laptop, surf the net and send an e-mail, you have the technical experience necessary to participate!

The presentation will:

  • empower even non-technically inclined professionals.
  • teach you how to translate your vision into a growing presence on the World Wide Web.
  • help you use technology to make new contacts, influence people and increase your business visibility.

Morning session:

Didactic overview of social media, covering the most important platforms including Twitter, blogging, Skype, etc. Each will be discussed SPECIFICALLY from a mental health/EA practioner’s perspective. A core focus will be to understand available technologies. Participants will then have the information necessary to help them decide which tools are best suited to their current professional objectives.

Afternoon workshops:

Blogging hands on workshop. Everything you ever wanted to know about blogging. How to set up a blog on the Blogger platform. You will leave the workshop having posted your first blog entry!

Consulting using Skype. Providing consultation via the Internet can be a tremendous added source of revenue, a new method for delivering services, and so much more. Find out how it’s done!

Twitter hands on workshop. How to set up an effective and professional Twitter presence. You will leave the workshop with both a Twitter account and a Hootsuite account to manage it.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will learn how to evaluate which web tools are most relevant to their professional practice and goals.
  • Participants will learn how to effectively stay on top of upcoming trends and developments that directly impact their professional development and business practices.
  • Participants will have hands on experience creating and using new media to advance their professional objectives.
Presenter Biography

Marina London

Marina is the Web Editor for the Employee Assistance Professionals Association and a former EAP executive. In this capacity, she maintains, and writes content for a large-scale international website serving over 5,000 members. She also spearheaded the Association's social media initiative.

Marina is known for her informative and entertaining presentations on social media marketing, blogging, Twitter, and web design for EA and mental health professionals, and has presented her "Web Secrets" through webinars, and at numerous local and national conferences.

She is the author of the award winning iWebU blog (http://iwebu.blogspot.com), which is geared towards helping professionals use social media and technology to grow their businesses and private practices. She also writes a quarterly column on “Technology Trends” for the Journal of Employee Assistance.

Marina London has a Bachelor of Arts cum laude in Psychology from Yale University and a Master of Science from Columbia University.

 

Michael Klaybor

Dr. Michael Klaybor brings nearly thirty years of experience to his practice. He has been working internationally to set up assessment and treatment programs, train psychiatrists, psychologists and psychotherapists in Moscow, Sakhalin Island and the Balkans in alcohol treatment, employee assistance training, and brief therapy. Much of his international training has been using the various Internet modalities. His recent work is in the use of Social Media for coaching, training and consultation. Recently, he has developed a new treatment program using several social media forms (Blogs, Twitter, Skype, Online Coaching and Counseling) to assess and treat women with a high-risk pregnancy on bed rest.

Dr. Klaybor earned his masters and doctorate degrees in counseling and psychology from Indiana University. He is a licensed professional counselor, marriage & family therapist, chemical dependency counselor, and tobacco cessation specialist. He is certified in employee assistance counseling and hypnosis. He works on Web Solutions for mental health problems including the development of an online therapy program for women with high risk pregnancies on complete bedrest.
